I brush my teeth in the shower.

To the virgin spine people (definition: people with spines crafted from the hands of Chuck Norris himself that are indestructible, free from injury...also known by me as lucky motha fackers), my conventional morning ritual may seem a tad bizarre. But when bending is almost virtually impossible, you alter what you would normally do to accommodate your restrictions. No matter how bizarre they may be, these become your new norm.

The first night after I sustained my back injury, I quickly learned how much we use our spines to perform simple tasks. I was standing in front of my bathroom sink, with a mouthful of toothpaste when I realized I couldn't bend over to spit in the sink.

"Ra Roh" (I imagine that I sounded like Scooby-Doo in case you're wondering)

I didn't know what to do. My mouth quickly began to fill with more foam and more saliva that threatened to break through the mouth to throat seal. I tilted my head back at the froth began to escape through my tightly squeezed lips. My cheeks were bloated out ready to purge.

In a panic I hollered for my husband.
