So lately I have been busy sewing like a mad woman! I have been fighting working to complete my daughter's Waldorf doll for her first birthday. Wow... never again. I recently stabbed myself with a needle and bled all over the stupid thing's neck. Fortunately the blood came out but I decided to take a little break from the blood, sweat and tears of doll-making and tackled another sewing project.

Being that I'm less than three weeks away from my daughter's first birthday, I came up with a few shortcuts to simplify the process of making the happy birthday banner. Here are some tips:

A few years ago, my mom gave me her piano. The piano was a childhood gift and she learned how to play on it. At almost half a century old, this piano has gifted several households with music.

I remember its placement in my grandmother's house. I recall slamming my fingers in the wooden cover for the keys. I remember....

As I struggle to make the head for the Waldorf doll I'm creating for my daughter's first birthday, I ask myself, why am I doing this? Why this "insane" need to create a gift for my children's birthdays?

Think of how many times you greet someone. Visitors that come to your home, your coworkers, your clientele, your friends, your partner, your children... at some point in the day, every day, you greet someone.

One of the best parts of my day is when I enter my 10-month-old's room after she's been sleeping. As I open the door, I can see her sitting on her knees. The minute she realizes I'm there, she bounces up and down, smiles the biggest smile and claps her hands. I love it... and it melts my heart every time. Just imagine what our relationships would be like if we greeted someone as if they were, at that moment, the best and most important person in the world.
