Here's a link to a great little round-up of Family Friendly Do-It-Yourself New Year's Eve Fun: New Years with kids (family ideas)
I would add the following to the list, if you are planning a quiet evening in:sleep out under the tree! We've done this and my peeps get so excited to see the sleeping bags laid out. They love to be in the glow of the tree lights.... who doesn't?!
Another quick idea: raid your closet, pick a neighbour or a family members house - and go mummering! Why not?? Not only do the kids enjoy it, its a culture lesson, LOL! Wear your clothes inside out; put a curtain, sheet, hat and/or mask over your face; DON'T forget to cover your hands; coach the kids on altering their voices (which will work to varying degrees, believe me) and just have fun with whatever becomes of it all ;-) My two mummered for the first time this Christmas and are planning another "outing" before school starts!
Have a fun night and best wishes for a wonderful New Year!
PS: for events around town, check out this past post. Cheers!

I am noticing a trend. Whenever I start a story about me and some Hot Mom's it usually included the word sushi. So, keeping with that theme....
A few months ago I was out for sushi with a couple of Mommy's that I met in a Mommy and Me Class.
We started chatting about ideas for our three year olds birthday party. Sledding, Skating, Movies, Bowling, blah, blah, blah. Riveting.
Then Mommy #1 had something to share.
She recently took her daughter to a swimming birthday party.
"Oh that's a good idea!" I say.
"Sort of." She replied. Mommy #1 went on to talk about how the swimming is great, but then you call go to the change room, look at each other get naked and then go and eat cake.
I had never thought of that.
Such a good point.
I am still traumatized from my grade 6 school field trip to the city. We took the bus for 3 hours and then stayed at the YMCA in Regina, Saskatchewan. I never went swimming, but somehow ended up in a change room where two women were having a shower.
Naked.
I had hardly even seen myself naked. And here were these 2 grown women in the shower.
TOGETHER.
I had never seen so much bush in my life.
Another time, I went to an aquafit class with a co worker. I'll save the story, but I can still see her bent over drying her feet. See what goes on in my head? It's not pretty.
So, when Whirlwind was invited to a Swimming Birthday Party last weekend. I started to sweat.
Really?
Firstly, showing off my 200lb body in swimsuit is not my most favourite thing to do. My breasts are just out of control. But, secondly, getting naked in front of all of my friends and then wrestling my bra and panties (yes, I used the word panties, I like it) over my wet body and flopping my boobs into my bras is NOT a good look for me.
Thankfully, there was a private change room. And me and my boobs were able to wrestle in private.

I'm ready. Are you? Christmas is almost here and I'm sure if we could illuminate the excitement in our house, it could be seen from outer space!
My daughter (who is almost four) anxiously eyes the calendar every day. She counts each day until Christmas and frequently reminds us that Christmas is almost here....

I'm super excited that Chunky finally realizes the seriousness of being naughty or nice this Christmas season.
And I'm using it to my parental advantage.
"Chunky, did you feed Champ your socks? Santa will be very upset with you if your Daddy has to pull another sock out of Champ's b-hole."
"That's it, I'm calling Santa and telling him that you refuse to wear pants."
"Santa can hear you every time you fart and blame it on Mommy. He doesn't like liars."
"Chunky, I'm going to take a shower. An uninterrupted one. That means that you have to stay out of the bathroom and play in the living room. And don't you dare take the ornaments off the tree because Santa is watching you. If he sees that you're playing with the ornaments, he'll fly down from the North Pole and give you an ass that's redder than his suit."
"Santa is allergic to peanut butter. So you better get your hands and face out of the peanut butter jar and wash your hands before you paint the house with it. If Santa touches peanut butter he'll die. You don't want Santa to die do you?"

PS. This is a regular meme on my blog. If you'd like to participate, it is every Saturday beginning in the New Year. I look forward to seeing you link up!!!

I found this recipe last week and made it my mission to make it dairy-free.
OH. MY. GOODNESS!
This chocolate nibbly bit is originally named Chocolate Cocaine because of it's highly addictive nature. I took it upon myself to rename it because I wouldn't feel comfortable with my four-year-old daughter running around telling people I feed her Chocolate Cocaine.
This recipe takes three ingredients. YES... only three and it has been moved into our Christmas Recipe Hall of Fame....
